How does acupuncture work?
Before you begin your acupuncture treatment, the team at Eden Acupuncture looks over your medical history and analyzes previous medical records including imaging studies that have been causing you pain or discomfort.
To better determine the right treatment plan for you, they also ask questions about your symptoms, lifestyle, and diet. This initial evaluation, which gives the team the information they need to develop your individualized treatment plan, can take up to 30 minutes.
At your next appointment, the team inserts hair-thin needles into predetermined acupuncture points throughout your body.
Where the needles are inserted depends entirely on your unique plan. The team may insert the needles close to your area of pain, or further away, but your practitioner always walks you through the plan before getting started.
The team may gently twirl or manipulate the needles for stimulation, but the process should not be painful. Most patients experience a mild pinch or sting when their needles are first inserted but notify your acupuncturist right away if these symptoms don’t subside during the session.
After your initial consultation, each acupuncture appointment takes approximately 20-30 minutes. While most patients feel refreshed and relaxed after their sessions, contact the Eden Acupuncture team right away if you experience nausea, dizziness, fainting, or skin rashes following your treatment.

Electro-Acupuncture
While traditional acupuncture relies on needles to stimulate specific points,
some modern practitioners might use electrical modalities to stimulate
acupuncture points, especially when treating pain or musculoskeletal conditions.

This combination can be referred to as "electroacupuncture," though typically
electroacupuncture refers to a method where a small electrical current is passed
between pairs of acupuncture needles
